Schloss Prielau is situated in the idyllic city of Zell am See in Austria. While Dr. Wolfgang Porsche owns the castle, it is a hotel these days. The estate was completely renovated and adjusted to the highest standards with the typical preciseness of Porsche. And there is always a Porsche for jaunts at our guest‘s proposal. In summer you can drive a convertible and in winter one of the beautiful limousines.
Schloss Prielau was purchased in 1983 by Dr. Wolfgang Porsche, youngest son of Dr. h.c. Ferdinand Anton Ernst Porsche and grandson of the founder of the Porsche automobile plants in Zuffenhausen. Within three years of restauration, the castle was lovingly renovated by Dr. Wolfgang Porsche. In May 1987, Castle Prielau opened its doors for the first time for hotel guests.
Surrounded by large grounds with ancient trees, this castle feels as if it belongs to a medieval fairy tale. A private beach at the lake, just 200 m away from the castle, is provided for hotel guests. Wellness with sauna, steambath, caldarium, massage and cosmetics was recently added. Two restaurants will appeal to the palate of the guests: the castle’s own restaurant for Austrian specialities and home-baked cakes during the day time. In the evening the high art of dining is celebrated in the gourmet restaurant “MAYER’s”. Conferred with a Michelin star and to be nominated to be one of Austria’s top ten restaurant. Andreas Mayer, chef de cuisine at the MAYER’s, has cooked his way into hearts of guests in a very short period of time.
Schloss Prielau has 2 suites and 7 double rooms as well as an apartment in the ‘Fischerhaus’. The rooms are furnished in the tradition of Austrian rural style, combined with the comfort and luxury of an international 4-star hotel.
Since 2004, Andreas Mayer is in charge of the kitchen-team of MAYER’S restaurant at Schloss Prielau. His achievements have been immediately rewarded with several awards: 2 stars Guide Micheling, 5 “Hauben” Bertelsmann Guide, 3 FFF Feinschmecker Germany, Cook of the year Austria 2007, Newcomer of the year 2006 A la Carte Journal Austria and many more. Mayer cooks in French tradition, focusing on strong aromas and new combinations. Being a disciple of Witzigmann, he loves to play with special variations and remains conventional and down-to-earth at the same time. The fact that the ingredients come from organic farming - the meat is from the local region and the vegetables and spices are home-grown – guarantees freshness and wonderful taste. Vegetarian menus are a passion of the head chef.
The Wellness-area in the ‘bathhouse’ of the castle offers a sauna, steam bath and massages. Moreover, the private beach provides swimming possibilities, a lakeside house and cosy loungers. The skiing resorts of the Europe-sports region are all within a few minutes reach.
