Luxury hotel description

Great Fosters is a Grade One listed building set amongst 50 acres of stunning gardens and parkland in Egham, Surrey. Immaculately preserved, this stately historic monument boasts an enviable location close to Heathrow, the M25 and M4 and near Windsor, Wentworth, Staines and Virginia Water. This luxury romantic hotel in Surrey provides the perfect setting for a wedding with infinite opportunities for stunning photographs. The hotel is a historic wedding venue, offering a choice of private rooms including a 14th century Tithe Barn. It also has a licence for outside ceremonies to be conducted on the lawn by the Saxon moat.

The hotel also provides a unique luxurious retreat for meetings and conferences located minutes from the M3 and M25, and conveniently near to Heathrow, Egham, Staines and Chertsey. Overlooking an historic walled garden, offering tranquil seclusion, The Coach House has been exclusively designed to combine state-of-the-art conference facilities with luxurious accommodation. The Oak Room restaurant offers gourmet cuisine and peerless service from a dedicated hospitality team, who ensure that any private or business occasion is a pleasure. The Cocktail Bar, Drawing Room and Terrace, which overlooks the estate, serve some of the most delicious light lunches and afternoon tea in Surrey.

Great Fosters is a rare experience! A luxury hotel near Heathrow, Windsor and Staines that combines genuine historical acclaim with a gracious setting, modern amenities and discreet service. More than four centuries of celebrated history have enriched Great Fosters with a remarkable heritage. Probably built as a royal hunting lodge in 1550 and very much a stately home since then, Great Fosters is now a prestigious 43 bedroom hotel. Sympathetically converted in the 1930s by the Sutcliffe family, who are still its current custodians, the hotel possesses a plethora of original details and features including mullioned windows, Jacobean fireplaces, a rare oakwell staircase, authentic tapestries and moulded ceilings.

Bedrooms: All the suites and bedrooms at Great Fosters are individually decorated, some with four-poster beds, Persian rugs, gilt furnishings and damask walls, antiques and artefacts dating back hundreds of years. Guests are accommodated in three separate buildings. The Main House, which dates from 1550, offers a choice of historic suites and bedrooms. The Cloisters, which is reached across a courtyard, offers more contemporary suites and double rooms. The Coach House offers 11 junior suites and double rooms, which were refurbished in the Summer of 2008. All bedrooms throughout the hotel feature beds made with silk filled duvets and have complimentary wi-fi.

Meetings and events: Great Fosters offers a variety of meeting rooms, superb cuisine and scenic gardens and courtyards where delegates may relax. All meeting rooms have natural light and many have views over the gardens or a courtyard.
The Coach House, which includes the Clarence, Victoria and Concord meeting rooms opened in Autumn 2008 and is a self contained building, a very short walk across a courtyard. It offers privacy and seclusion for up to 22 delegates in three boardrooms, which open on to a walled garden and spacious conference lounge.

Our dedicated and experienced event co-ordinators will ensure that your event is organised with the minimum of stress and our conference and banqueting managers will ensure that on the day itself your event runs smoothly and every need is anticipated and taken care of.

Dining
Specialising in modern English cuisine using the finest ingredients, Great Fosters offers an inspired menu of gourmet food. The hotel is popular with hotel guests and local residents seeking a top restaurant within the Wentworth, Windsor, Virginia Water and Heathrow area.
Relax with a pre dinner drink in the Cocktail Bar overlooking the Japanese bridge, beside one of the fires in the Main Hall or Drawing Room, or on the terraces overlooking the magnificent gardens. The Oak Room has been converted into a beautiful and elegant restaurant infused with character. Graceful, exposed oak beams complement its refined, modern décor, and large mullioned windows illuminate the room with natural daylight.

Gardens
In 1918, the Hon Gerald Samuel Montagu purchased Great Fosters and commissioned the famous architect W H Romaine-Walker to convert the house to the Elizabethan design that it honours to this day. W H Romaine-Walker and Gilbert Jenkins worked together to establish the exceptional gardens, with their clipped yew hedges, knot garden and archery pavilion. Over the years, the grounds have been extended, restored and enhanced, but aside from their scenic and floral acclaim they also boast historical renown in their own right, with features such as the Drake sundial, which historians suggest may have been donated by Sir Francis Drake. Today the gardens offer a stunning setting for a romantic wedding and is an idyllic place for visitors to relax in privacy. They feature a Saxon moat with wisteria draped Japanese bridge leading to a sunken rose garden, grassed amphitheatre, four secret gardens and a lake.
